Tanacetum vulgare, commonly known as Common Tansy, is a hardy, herbaceous perennial with upright stems and aromatic, deeply divided, fern-like foliage. It produces clusters of bright yellow, button-like flowers that sit atop tall stems, creating a striking visual impact in borders or naturalized settings. The plant has historical uses in traditional medicine and as a natural insect repellent.

Tanacetum vulgare thrives in well-drained soils and is tolerant of a range of soil types, including sandy or poor soils. It is drought-tolerant once established and deer- and rabbit-resistant, making it a low-maintenance option for naturalistic or wildflower gardens. However, it can spread aggressively in some areas due to its rhizomatous growth, so containment may be necessary. The cheerful yellow flowers attract pollinators like bees and butterflies, and the plant pairs well with other tall perennials like rudbeckia, echinacea, and ornamental grasses for a bold and vibrant display. Regular cutting back after flowering can help control its spread and maintain a tidy appearance.
