Crocosmia 'Star of the East' is a distinguished perennial celebrated for its large, luminous orange flowers and graceful, arching stems. This cultivar adds a vibrant splash of color to gardens, making it a favorite among gardeners seeking to enliven their landscapes.

Star of the East' produces impressive, star-shaped flowers up to 4 inches (10 cm) wide, showcasing soft orange petals with creamy throats adorned with burgundy freckles. These blossoms emerge from deep orange buds and are borne on arching stems above clumps of sword-shaped, mid-green foliage, contributing to its ornamental appeal.

In Zone 4, it requires special care to survive the winter. To enhance its chances of overwintering successfully, consider planting the corms deeper than usual and applying a thick layer of mulch in the fall to insulate the roots. Alternatively, you can lift the corms in the fall and store them in a cool, dry place over winter, replanting them in the spring after the danger of frost has passed.
