Silene dioica, commonly known as Red Campion or Red Catchfly, is a charming herbaceous perennial or short-lived perennial that produces clusters of bright rose-pink to reddish-pink, star-shaped flowers with softly notched petals. The flowers are held on upright, lightly branching stems above fresh green, softly hairy foliage, creating a natural and airy appearance in the garden. Blooming from spring into summer, this plant adds cheerful colour, woodland charm, and pollinator value to borders, cottage gardens, wildflower plantings, or naturalized garden areas.

Thrives in moist, well-drained soil with average to rich fertility. Avoid planting in dry, harsh, or waterlogged conditions. Requires minimal maintenance once established and often self-seeds gently in suitable conditions. Deadhead spent blooms to encourage a tidier appearance and prolong flowering, or leave some seed heads to allow naturalizing. Pairs well with ferns, geraniums, aquilegia, and grasses for a soft, naturalistic garden display. Attracts bees, butterflies, and other beneficial insects. Generally avoided by deer and rabbits. Excellent for woodland edges, cottage-style landscapes, wildflower gardens, shaded borders, or naturalized plantings. Silene dioica is a graceful and easy-growing plant that thrives in partially shaded gardens, adding bright pink flowers and a relaxed meadow-like presence. Its long bloom period, pollinator appeal, and ability to naturalize make it a valuable choice for informal and wildlife-friendly landscapes.
