Scabiosa caucasica 'Isaac House Hybrids,' commonly known as Pincushion Flower, is a group of vigorous, long-blooming perennials featuring large, delicate, pincushion-like flowers. The blooms come in a variety of shades, including lavender, blue, pink, and white, with a central dome surrounded by frilled petals. The flowers are held on slender, wiry stems above a compact rosette of gray-green, deeply lobed leaves. This hybrid variety is perfect for cottage gardens, mixed borders, and cutting gardens.
Scabiosa caucasica 'Isaac House Hybrids' thrives in well-drained, moderately fertile soils and is drought-tolerant once established. It attracts pollinators such as bees and butterflies while being deer- and rabbit-resistant. Deadheading spent flowers encourages prolonged blooming, and cutting back the plant after the first flush of flowers can encourage a second bloom. Pair it with sun-loving perennials like coreopsis, salvia, or lavender for a vibrant and dynamic garden display. Its elegant, airy blooms also make excellent cut flowers for arrangements.
Sun Requirements:
Full Sun to Partial Shade. Prefers full sun for abundant blooms but tolerates light shade, especially in warmer climates.
Maximum Growth Height:
18–24 inches (45–60 cm), with a spread of about 12–18 inches (30–45 cm).
Bloom Month:
June to September. Blooms continuously from early summer through early fall, providing a prolonged display of color.
