Rudbeckia hirta, commonly known as Black-Eyed Susan or Gloriosa Daisy, is a cheerful herbaceous perennial, biennial, or short-lived perennial that produces bright golden-yellow, daisy-like flowers with dark brown to black central cones. The blooms are held on upright, sturdy stems above clumps of rough, hairy green foliage, creating a bold and natural appearance in the garden. Blooming from midsummer into fall, this plant adds vibrant colour, texture, and pollinator value to borders, cottage gardens, meadow plantings, wildflower gardens, or sunny perennial beds.

Thrives in well-drained soil with dry to medium moisture. Avoid planting in heavy, wet, or waterlogged conditions. Requires minimal maintenance once established and shows good heat and drought tolerance. Deadhead spent blooms to encourage prolonged flowering and maintain a tidy appearance, or leave seed heads for winter interest and wildlife value. Pairs well with echinacea, monarda, coreopsis, salvia, asters, and ornamental grasses for a bright, wildlife-friendly garden display. Attracts bees, butterflies, and other beneficial insects. Generally avoided by deer and rabbits. Excellent for sunny borders, cottage-style landscapes, pollinator gardens, meadow plantings, wildflower gardens, mass plantings, or cut flower arrangements. Rudbeckia hirta is a dependable and colourful plant that thrives in sunny gardens, adding bold golden blooms and strong ecological value through the summer and fall seasons. Its long bloom period, easy-care nature, and excellent pollinator appeal make it a valuable choice for low-maintenance and wildlife-friendly perennial displays.
