Rhodiola integrifolia ssp. atropurpurea is a hardy, alpine perennial known for its compact form and striking red to deep burgundy flower clusters. Its succulent, blue-green leaves are thick and fleshy, forming low rosettes that hug the ground. In summer, short stems rise above the foliage bearing tight, dome-shaped flower heads that create a bold contrast against the cool-toned leaves.

Native to high elevations and cold climates, this subspecies thrives in rocky, well-drained soils and is exceptionally drought-tolerant. It’s ideal for rock gardens, alpine troughs, and exposed sites where other plants may struggle. Rhodiola is also known for its medicinal history and its ability to thrive in extreme conditions with minimal care.
