Polygonum bistorta, commonly known as Bistort or Meadow Bistort, is a graceful herbaceous perennial that produces dense, upright spikes of soft pink to pale rose flowers. The blooms are held above clumps of broad, lance-shaped green leaves, creating a fresh, natural, and meadow-like appearance in the garden. Blooming from late spring into summer, this plant adds gentle colour, texture, and pollinator value to borders, cottage gardens, moist meadows, pond edges, or naturalized perennial beds.

Thrives in rich, moist, well-drained soil with consistent moisture. Avoid planting in very dry conditions, especially in hot climates. Requires minimal maintenance once established and performs especially well in cooler, moisture-retentive garden sites. Deadhead spent blooms to encourage a tidier appearance and possible continued flowering. Cut back tired foliage after flowering if needed to refresh the plant. Pairs well with astilbes, hostas, ferns, primulas, and ornamental grasses for a soft, layered garden display. Attracts bees, butterflies, and other beneficial insects. Generally avoided by deer and rabbits. Excellent for moist borders, woodland edges, cottage-style landscapes, pond margins, meadow gardens, or naturalized plantings. Polygonum bistorta is a dependable and elegant perennial that thrives in moist garden settings, adding soft pink flower spikes and lush foliage with a naturalistic charm. Its tolerance for damp soils, early-season bloom, and pollinator appeal make it a valuable choice for moisture-loving perennial displays.
