Monarda didyma ‘Goldmelisse’, commonly known as Goldmelisse Bee Balm or Bergamot, is a fragrant herbaceous perennial that produces showy clusters of tubular flowers in rich red to crimson-red tones. The blooms are held in rounded flower heads on upright, square stems above aromatic, lance-shaped green foliage, creating a bold and colorful appearance in the garden. Blooming in midsummer to late summer, this plant adds vibrant color, texture, and excellent pollinator value to borders, herb gardens, cottage gardens, pollinator plantings, or naturalized perennial beds.

Thrives in fertile, well-drained soil with consistent moisture. Avoid planting in very dry or waterlogged conditions. Requires moderate maintenance and performs best with good air circulation to help reduce powdery mildew. Deadhead spent blooms to encourage a tidier appearance and prolong flowering. Divide clumps every few years to maintain vigor and prevent overcrowding. Pairs well with echinacea, rudbeckia, phlox, salvia, and ornamental grasses for a colorful, wildlife-friendly garden display. Attracts bees, butterflies, hummingbirds, and other beneficial pollinators. Generally avoided by deer and rabbits. Excellent for sunny borders, cottage-style landscapes, herb gardens, pollinator gardens, meadow-style plantings, or cut flower arrangements. Monarda didyma ‘Goldmelisse’ is a bold and aromatic perennial that thrives in sunny gardens, adding vivid red blooms and strong ecological value through the summer season. Its fragrant foliage, bright flower clusters, and exceptional appeal to hummingbirds and pollinators make it a valuable choice for vibrant, wildlife-friendly landscapes.
