Lychnis flos-cuculi, commonly known as Ragged Robin, is a delightful perennial wildflower characterized by its unique, deeply lobed, and ragged-looking star-shaped pink flowers. The blooms rise on slender stems above a basal rosette of narrow, lance-shaped green leaves. Its airy, delicate appearance makes it an excellent choice for naturalistic plantings, meadows, or damp garden areas.
Lychnis flos-cuculi thrives in moist, well-drained soils and is particularly suited for areas near ponds, streams, or rain gardens. It attracts pollinators like bees and butterflies and is resistant to deer and rabbits. The plant pairs beautifully with other meadow or moisture-loving plants such as irises, astilbes, or marsh marigolds. Deadheading spent flowers encourages prolonged blooming, and the plant may self-seed lightly in ideal conditions, providing a naturalized look. It is a low-maintenance perennial that adds charm and a touch of wild beauty to garden landscapes.
