Linaria vulgaris, commonly known as Yellow Toadflax or Butter-and-Eggs, is a hardy herbaceous perennial that produces slender spikes of snapdragon-like flowers in soft yellow with warm orange throats. The blooms are held on upright stems above narrow, blue-green to gray-green foliage, creating a fine-textured, airy, and natural appearance in the garden. Blooming from midsummer into fall, this plant adds cheerful color, delicate vertical form, and wildflower charm to borders, meadow plantings, cottage gardens, or naturalized perennial beds.

Thrives in well-drained soil with dry to medium moisture. Avoid planting in heavy, wet, or waterlogged conditions. Requires minimal maintenance once established and shows good drought tolerance. Deadhead spent blooms to encourage a tidier appearance and reduce self-seeding where spreading is not desired. Cut back after flowering if needed to maintain a neat habit. Pairs well with yarrow, echinacea, rudbeckia, ornamental grasses, nepeta, and other meadow-style perennials for a soft, naturalistic garden display. Attracts bees, butterflies, and other beneficial insects. Generally avoided by deer and rabbits. Excellent for sunny borders, cottage-style landscapes, wildflower gardens, meadow plantings, dry banks, or naturalized areas. Linaria vulgaris is a tough and cheerful perennial that thrives in sunny, well-drained gardens, adding yellow flowers and fine-textured foliage over a long season. Its drought tolerance, long bloom period, and ability to naturalize make it a useful choice for informal, low-maintenance, and wildlife-friendly landscapes.
