Ligularia dentata 'Midnight Lady,' commonly known as Leopard Plant, is a striking perennial prized for its dramatic, large, dark purple to nearly black, rounded leaves. The foliage creates a bold, architectural presence in the garden. In mid to late summer, it produces bright golden-yellow, daisy-like flowers held on tall stems above the foliage, creating a stunning contrast against the dark leaves.
Ligularia dentata 'Midnight Lady' thrives in moist, well-drained, rich soils and is ideal for damp areas such as near ponds, streams, or in rain gardens. It attracts pollinators like bees and butterflies while being deer- and rabbit-resistant. This low-maintenance plant pairs well with other moisture-loving shade perennials like astilbes, ferns, and hostas for a lush, layered effect. Regular watering is essential to keep the foliage healthy, especially during hot or dry periods. Deadheading spent flowers can maintain a neat appearance, but the plant remains attractive primarily for its dramatic foliage.
