Hosta 'Sum and Substance' is a dramatic and highly popular perennial known for its impressive size and striking golden-green foliage. One of the largest hostas available today, with 16", broadly ovate leaves and a huge, mounded form. The large, thick leaves are slightly corrugated, providing texture and a lush appearance in the garden. This hosta creates a bold statement, often used as a focal point in shade gardens. In summer, tall scapes rise above the foliage, bearing pale lavender flowers that add an elegant touch.
Hosta 'Sum and Substance' thrives in rich, well-drained, and consistently moist soils. It is highly resistant to slugs and other pests due to its thick, waxy leaves. This low-maintenance perennial pairs beautifully with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-loving plants, adding texture and color to woodland gardens. Regular watering during dry periods and occasional fertilization will ensure healthy growth and vibrant foliage. Its large size makes it an excellent choice for anchoring garden beds or creating a bold, dramatic display.
