Heuchera americana ‘Palace Purple Select’, commonly known as Palace Purple Coral Bells, is a striking herbaceous perennial grown primarily for its rich, deep purple to bronze-purple foliage. The leaves are broad, lobed, and slightly ruffled, forming attractive mounds that provide bold colour and texture throughout the growing season. In late spring to early summer, slender stems rise above the foliage, carrying small, airy, creamy white to pale pink bell-shaped flowers, adding delicate contrast to the dramatic leaves.
Thrives in rich, well-drained soil with consistent moisture. Avoid planting in heavy, waterlogged conditions. Requires minimal maintenance once established and benefits from a layer of mulch to help retain soil moisture and protect the roots. Remove faded flower stems and trim away damaged or tired foliage to keep the plant looking fresh. Pairs well with hostas, ferns, astilbes, and brunnera for a colorful, layered shade garden display. Attracts bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds when in bloom. Generally avoided by deer and rabbits. Excellent for borders, woodland gardens, shade gardens, containers, or mass plantings. Heuchera americana ‘Palace Purple Select’ is a versatile and dependable foliage perennial that thrives in partially shaded gardens, adding rich purple color, texture, and year-round interest in milder climates. Its compact habit, attractive leaves, and airy flower stems make it a valuable choice for brightening shaded or mixed perennial plantings.
