Helenium flexuosum, commonly known as Purple-Headed Sneezeweed, is a native North American perennial characterized by its distinctive, daisy-like flowers. The blooms feature yellow petals that surround a domed, purplish-brown central cone. Its slender, wiry stems are adorned with lance-shaped green leaves, giving it a delicate yet vibrant appearance. This wildflower is ideal for naturalistic plantings, meadows, and pollinator gardens.
Helenium flexuosum thrives in moist to moderately well-drained soils and is tolerant of occasional flooding, making it a great choice for rain gardens, wetlands, or pond edges. It attracts bees, butterflies, and other pollinators while being resistant to deer and rabbits. The plant is low-maintenance, though deadheading spent blooms can promote prolonged flowering. Its airy growth habit pairs well with ornamental grasses and other native wildflowers such as goldenrod and Joe Pye weed for a natural and harmonious garden display.
