Geum 'Mrs. J. Bradshaw,' commonly known as Avens, is a clump-forming, herbaceous perennial with striking, semi-double, brilliant scarlet-red flowers. The vibrant blooms sit atop wiry, slender stems above a mound of lobed, bright green foliage. This hardy perennial is renowned for its bold, long-lasting color and adds dramatic flair to borders, cottage gardens, and mixed plantings.
Geum 'Mrs. J. Bradshaw' prefers well-drained, fertile soil with consistent moisture, making it an excellent choice for borders or near water features. Deadheading spent flowers encourages prolonged blooming, and cutting back the plant after the blooming period promotes fresh foliage and sometimes a smaller second flush of blooms. This versatile plant pairs well with contrasting-colored perennials like coreopsis, salvia, or lavender, creating dynamic and colorful garden combinations. It also attracts bees and butterflies, making it a great addition to pollinator-friendly gardens.
