Eupatorium purpureum var. atropurpureum, commonly known as Joe Pye Weed, is a tall, clump-forming perennial with striking, domed clusters of tiny, fragrant, purplish-pink flowers. The sturdy, wine-red stems and lance-shaped, dark green leaves add texture and interest even when the plant is not in bloom. This showy plant is an excellent choice for naturalized gardens, borders, or areas near water features.

Eupatorium purpureum var. atropurpureum prefers moist, well-drained soils and performs exceptionally well in damp conditions, such as near ponds or streams. It is highly attractive to pollinators, including bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds, and is a valuable addition to wildlife gardens. Deer-resistant and low-maintenance, this perennial thrives with minimal care, though it benefits from occasional division to maintain vigor. Its towering height and abundant blooms make it an impressive centerpiece for perennial borders or meadow plantings.
