Echinops bannaticus 'Blue Glow,' commonly known as Globe Thistle, is a striking perennial prized for its unique, spherical, metallic-blue flower heads. These blooms sit atop tall, sturdy stems, creating a dramatic architectural feature in the garden. The plant features deeply lobed, silvery-green, spiny foliage, adding texture and contrast to borders and wildflower plantings. Its bold, structural form makes it a favorite for both contemporary and cottage garden designs.
Echinops 'Blue Glow' thrives in well-drained soils and is highly drought-tolerant once established. It is an excellent choice for pollinator-friendly gardens, attracting bees and butterflies. The dried seed heads add interest in the fall and winter and can be used in dried floral arrangements. This hardy, low-maintenance plant is deer- and rabbit-resistant, making it a resilient and attractive addition to the garden. Deadheading encourages tidiness but is not essential for this easy-care perennial.
