Echinacea tennesseensis 'Rocky Top,' or Tennessee Coneflower, is a rare and unique perennial with slightly upturned, daisy-like petals in soft pink to lavender shades. These petals radiate around a domed, reddish-brown central cone. Known for its adaptability and compact growth habit, this species is native to the rocky cedar glades of Tennessee and is prized for its charm and durability in a variety of garden settings.
This compact and hardy perennial is drought-tolerant and thrives in well-drained, rocky, or sandy soils. It is deer-resistant and highly attractive to bees, butterflies, and other pollinators. 'Rocky Top' is an excellent choice for naturalizing in gardens or prairie-style plantings. Leaving seed heads in place after flowering can add winter interest and provide a food source for birds. Regular deadheading encourages prolonged blooming.
