Digitalis purpurea 'Monstrosa Purple,' also known as Foxglove 'Monstrosa Purple,' is a unique and striking variety of foxglove. This perennial is known for its large, single flower that emerges at the top of its tall spike, resembling a crown. The rest of the spike is adorned with bell-shaped, tubular, purple flowers, often with intricate speckled patterns inside the throats. The plant's basal rosette of green, lance-shaped leaves provides a lush, attractive backdrop to its towering flower spikes.
This foxglove variety thrives in well-drained, moderately fertile soil and is relatively easy to care for. It attracts pollinators like bees and hummingbirds while being deer-resistant. Deadheading spent blooms can encourage a longer blooming season, though allowing some flowers to set seed can support self-seeding for future plants.
