Digitalis purpurea 'Berggold,' or Foxglove 'Berggold,' is a visually striking variety of the common foxglove. It features tall spikes of tubular, bell-shaped flowers in a luminous golden-yellow hue, often with delicately spotted interiors. The plant forms a rosette of ovate, green, basal leaves, which provide a lush base for the elegant flower spikes. This biennial or short-lived perennial is ideal for cottage gardens, borders, and naturalized areas.
This foxglove variety thrives in well-drained, moderately fertile soil and is particularly attractive to pollinators like bees and hummingbirds. It is deer-resistant and low-maintenance, though it benefits from deadheading to prolong flowering. Allowing some flowers to set seed will help ensure self-seeding for future seasons.
