Cephalaria radiata, commonly known as Radiant Scabious, is a tall, graceful perennial featuring soft, pale yellow, pincushion-like flowers atop slender, branching stems. The blooms sway gently above a clump of finely divided, feathery green foliage, adding a light and airy texture to borders and meadow-style plantings. Its subtle charm and tall stature make it a standout in naturalistic or cottage garden settings.
Cephalaria radiata thrives in well-drained, moderately fertile soils and is tolerant of dry conditions once established. It requires minimal maintenance; deadheading spent blooms encourages prolonged flowering, while cutting back stems after blooming maintains a tidy appearance. This plant pairs beautifully with other tall, airy perennials such as Verbena bonariensis, ornamental grasses, or Echinacea, creating a layered, textural effect. Its nectar-rich flowers attract bees, butterflies, and other pollinators, while its height and foliage make it unappealing to deer and rabbits. With its soft yellow blooms, graceful habit, and low-maintenance requirements, Radiant Scabious is an excellent choice for borders, wildflower gardens, and naturalized landscapes.
