Aster tongolensis ‘Wartburg Star’, commonly known as Wartburg Star East Indies Aster, is a compact herbaceous perennial that produces cheerful lavender-blue to violet-blue, daisy-like flowers with bright golden yellow centers. The blooms are held on upright stems above low mounds of narrow, dark green foliage, creating a fresh and colorful appearance in the garden. Blooming in late spring to early summer, this plant adds bright color, pollinator value, and alpine-style charm to borders, rock gardens, edging, or sunny perennial beds.

Thrives in well-drained soil with dry to medium moisture. Avoid planting in heavy, waterlogged conditions. Requires minimal maintenance once established and performs best with good air circulation. Deadhead spent blooms to encourage a tidier appearance and prolong flowering. Cut back lightly after flowering if needed to maintain a compact habit. Pairs well with dianthus, nepeta, sedum, salvia, and ornamental grasses for a colorful, low-growing garden display. Attracts bees, butterflies, and other beneficial insects. Generally avoided by deer and rabbits. Excellent for rock gardens, edging, sunny borders, alpine-style plantings, cottage-style landscapes, or mixed perennial beds. Aster tongolensis ‘Wartburg Star’ is a dependable and charming perennial that thrives in sunny gardens, adding lavender-blue daisy-like blooms early in the season. Its compact growth, easy-care nature, and pollinator-friendly flowers make it a valuable choice for low-maintenance perennial plantings and bright spring-to-early-summer displays.
