Aster alpinus 'Goliath,' commonly known as Alpine Aster, is a low-growing perennial featuring large, daisy-like flowers with lavender-purple petals surrounding a bright yellow center. This compact plant forms a neat mound of dark green, lance-shaped foliage, making it an excellent choice for rock gardens, borders, and containers. Its early bloom time adds a splash of color to the garden when many other plants are just beginning to grow.
Aster alpinus 'Goliath' grows best in well-drained, moderately fertile soils and thrives in sandy or rocky conditions, making it ideal for rock gardens and low-maintenance landscapes. Regular deadheading of spent blooms encourages prolonged flowering, while cutting back after blooming keeps the plant tidy and promotes healthy growth. It pairs beautifully with other early-blooming perennials like Dianthus, Phlox subulata, or Iberis for a colorful spring display. This plant attracts bees, butterflies, and other pollinators, while its compact size and dense foliage make it resistant to deer and rabbits. With its bright, cheerful flowers and adaptability to various garden conditions, 'Goliath' is a versatile and easy-to-grow addition to sunny spaces.
