Artemisia ludoviciana, commonly known as White Sage or Prairie Sage, is a vigorous herbaceous perennial known for its silvery-white, lance-shaped foliage with a soft, velvety texture. Its upright growth habit and striking foliage make it an excellent choice for adding contrast and structure to garden borders. While it produces small, pale yellow flower clusters in late summer, this plant is primarily valued for its foliage rather than its blooms. It is native to North America and well-suited to naturalistic and low-maintenance landscapes.

Artemisia ludoviciana grows best in well-drained, sandy, or rocky soils and thrives in poor, dry conditions, making it highly drought-tolerant and ideal for xeriscaping or low-maintenance gardens. This fast-growing perennial requires minimal care; cutting it back in late winter or early spring helps maintain its shape and prevent sprawling. It pairs beautifully with drought-tolerant perennials like lavender, echinacea, or ornamental grasses for a textured, layered effect. Its aromatic foliage naturally deters deer and rabbits, and it has traditional uses in smudging and ceremonies. With its silvery leaves, adaptability, and resilience, White Sage is an excellent choice for sunny borders, wildflower gardens, or dry, naturalized landscapes.
