Artemisia absinthium 'Silverado,' commonly known as Wormwood, is a hardy herbaceous perennial prized for its finely divided, aromatic, silvery-gray foliage that adds texture and contrast to garden borders. Its compact and mounding growth habit makes it a versatile plant for mixed borders, rock gardens, and low-maintenance landscapes. Though grown primarily for its ornamental foliage, it may produce small, inconspicuous yellow flowers in summer.
Artemisia absinthium 'Silverado' grows best in well-drained, sandy, or rocky soils and thrives in poor, dry conditions, making it drought-tolerant and ideal for xeriscaping. It requires minimal maintenance; cutting back in late fall or early spring promotes fresh growth and keeps the plant tidy. This variety does not readily self-seed, making it well-suited for controlled garden spaces. Pair it with vibrant perennials like lavender, salvia, or echinacea to create stunning contrasts in color and texture. Highly deer- and rabbit-resistant, it is also pollinator-friendly, attracting beneficial insects to the garden. With its soft, silvery foliage and drought tolerance, 'Silverado' adds elegance and resilience to sunny borders, rock gardens, and low-maintenance landscapes.
