Amsonia tabernaemontana, commonly known as Eastern Bluestar, is a clump-forming perennial native to North America. It is prized for its clusters of delicate, star-shaped, light blue flowers that bloom in spring and early summer. The flowers are held above upright stems of lance-shaped, dark green leaves, which turn a striking yellow in the fall, adding multi-season interest to gardens. Its neat and bushy growth habit makes it a versatile plant for borders, wildflower gardens, and naturalistic plantings.

Thrives in well-drained, moist soils but is adaptable to average garden soil and tolerates brief periods of drought once established. Requires minimal maintenance. Deadheading is unnecessary, and cutting back the plant after flowering can promote a more compact shape. Pairs beautifully with other native perennials like Echinacea, Rudbeckia, or Baptisia for a naturalistic garden setting. Attracts bees and butterflies with its nectar-rich flowers. Typically avoided by deer and rabbits. Long-lived and drought-tolerant once established, making it ideal for low-maintenance gardens. Amsonia tabernaemontana is a low-maintenance perennial that offers beauty and texture throughout the seasons, from its soft blue flowers in spring to its bold yellow foliage in fall. It’s an excellent addition to sunny or partially shaded borders and naturalized areas.
Amsonia hubrichtii is a versatile and easy-to-grow perennial that offers beauty in spring with its delicate flowers, texture in summer with its fine foliage, and bold golden hues in fall, making it a valuable addition to any garden.
